SUMMARY:Soil Management Summit
DESCRIPTION:This summit (formerly Conservation Tillage Conference) emphasizes proven farmer experience and applied science. Straight from the fields\, learn how heavier\, colder soils aren’t necessarily the challenge they’re made out to be. Hear from long-time no-till\, reduced tillage\, and cover crop farmers as they share their experiences\, so you can be spared the same hard-learned lessons. \nThe Summit features presentations and Q&A with researchers\, farmers and agricultural advisors\,  information from sponsors\, and conversations with farmers experienced in different soil health practices. \nAttendees who attend the entire conference will be offered CCA continuing education units (CEUs). \nThis Summit will be held online. For more information\, visit https://extension.umn.edu/event/2020-soil-management-summit.

The ranch consists of several thousand acres of native\nperennial rangeland along with perennial pastureland and cropland. Their ranch focuses on farming and\nranching in nature’s image. \nThe Browns holistically integrate their grazing and no-till cropping systems\, which include a wide variety\nof cash crops\, multi-species cover crops along with all natural grass finished beef and lamb. They also\nraise pastured laying hens\, broilers and swine. This diversity and integration has regenerated the natural\nresources on the ranch without the use of synthetic fertilizers\, pesticides\, and fungicides. \nThe Browns are part owners of a state inspected abattoir which allows them to direct market their\nproducts. They believe that healthy soil leads to clean air\, clean water\, healthy plants\, animals\, and\npeople. \nOver 2\,000 people visit the Brown’s Ranch annually to see this unique operation. They have had visitors\nfrom all fifty states and twenty-six foreign countries. \nGabe and Brown’s Ranch have received many forms of recognition for their work\, including a Growing\nGreen award from the Natural Resource Defense Council\, an Environmental Stewardship Award from the\nNational Cattlemen’s Beef Association\, and a Zero-Till Producer of the Year Award\, to name a few. Gabe\nhas also been named one of the twenty-five most influential agricultural leaders in the United States. \nGabe recently authored the book\, “Dirt to Soil\, One Family’s Journey Into Regenerative Agriculture.”\nHe is a partner\, along with Ray Archuleta\, Shane New and Dr. Allen Williams\, in Understanding Ag\nLLC. \nHe is also an instructor for Soil Health Academy\, which focuses on teaching others the power and\nimportance of healthy functioning ecosystems.
