SUMMARY:J&M Ranch Pasture Walk
DESCRIPTION:J and M Ranch’s Pasture Walk will offer a unique look at an operation that functions on leased property that belongs to a “non-operating land owner” (NOLO). Mike and his family along with his brother-in-law manage their operation in a way that generates profit for them\, and also improves the land for his NOLO. A win-win situation for both parties. Attendees to this walk will see how Mike and crew measure success and record change to show value added management for their NOLO. Other highlights include grazing management with soil health in mind and how that has changed their pastures ecologically and increased production to support their cow herd\, as well as using prescribed fire as a tool to manage pasture and foster native plant communities. \nWhen: Tuesday\, July 19 | 8AM-11:00 AM CDT\nWhere: J and M Ranch\, 41535 257th Street Mitchell\, SD.\nHosts: Mike Blaalid and Andrew Olson \nDirections: From Mitchell 255th Street East toward Mitchell Technical Institute. 255th turns into James River Rd and bends south. Follow James River Rd to “T” intersection and head east on 257th street. 1 mile east past the James River Bridge destination will be on the south side of the road. \nTo sign up or for special accommodations contact Jenita Derga at (308)-201-0065 or jenita1204@gmail.com.
