SDSU Extension will host a Sheep Grazing Field Day on June 13, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the SDSU West River Research Farm near Sturgis, South Dakota (13370 Alkali Road, Sturgis, SD 57785).
The field day will start at the SDSU West River Research Farm where participants will see virtual fence collars and cover crop grazing in action. Topics will include cover crop grazing research with Chris Graham, Associate Professor and SDSU Extension Agronomist, as well as virtual fence collars and soil health with Jaelyn Whaley, SDSU Extension Sheep Field Specialist, and Dave Ollila, Sheep Producer and SD Soil Health Coalition Soil Health Specialist.
The afternoon will be spent with Jaelyn and Dave discussing targeted grazing, deciding pasture allotments, and sheep grazing management.
